Our Story

Adventures on the Gorge is made up of outdoor enthusiasts, adrenaline-junkies, and nature lovers. We are explorers, innovators, and boundary-pushers. We are climbers, bikers, hikers, and paddlers. We come from different backgrounds, have different strengths, and pursue different dreams, but there is one thing we all have in common—a passion to experience and share this wild, wonderful corner of West Virginia that we call home.

The company was born out of four parent rafting companies during a tumultuous time in the rafting industry in West Virginia. In 2007, the forefathers of Mountain River Tours, Class-VI River Runners, Songer Whitewater, and the Rivermen recognized that a change in the industry warranted a change in the way they did business. Each company brought something different to the table with their own priorities, style of adventure, and loyal guests. So, by combining their strengths rather than competing, the four joined together to create a vacation experience that didn’t yet exist—the world’s premier adventure resort.

As forerunners in the adventure resort industry, the founders worked together to create a company that not only provided outdoor adventures, but also a complete vacation package. They expanded the resort creating the Canyon Rim and Mill Creek campuses, building the two campuses into complementary units. Both had restaurants, bars, lodging, camping, and a plethora of other amenities including an amazing swimming pool with breathtaking views of the New RiverGorge and New RiverGorge Bridge and conference room.

Yet, regardless of five-star cabins and delicious meals, at its heart, the company remains the product of gung-ho outdoor guides who want to share their sport with others so they too can experience the fulfillment that comes with being immersed in nature. Our founders and guides have grown up paddling these rivers and exploring these mountains and their dedication is reflected in the devoted guests who continue to return year after year—for a lifetime of Adventures on the Gorge.
