5 Family Favorite Adventures on the Gorge

New River Gorge Whitewater Rafting (Min age 6)

The best thing about whitewater rafting in West Virginia is that we have sections of river to suit all adventure needs. And indeed, whitewater rafting is not just for hardcore adventure seekers anymore, though we do recommend rafting mostly for families with a little bit of an outdoorsy streak. And on Upper New River trips, six year olds raft FREE—we call it Almost 7. Get it? West Virginia? Almost Heaven? Okay. (One six year old per a paying adult).

TimberTrek Adventure Park (Min age 4)

A magazine once called TimberTrek Adventure Park part ropes course, part canopy tour and part circus school.  That’s true and all, but when we describe it ourselves, we say it’s part ninja school, part video game come to life and all fun.  With five separate aerial obstacle courses ranging from mild to wild(kids 14 and up), there’s something for the whole family to enjoy.

Summersville Lake Multi-sport (Min Age 8)

One of the most unique adventures you’ll ever have is our Summersville Lake Adventure, available in half and full-day formats. Hop aboard and cruise the cliffs of Summerville lake for relaxing, jumping, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding and rock climbing—all from the deck of your guided pontoon-boat island. We’ve got the guides and the gear and we know where to go to show you the best time under the sun, whether you’re 8 years old, 80 years old, or somewhere in between.

New River Float Fishing (Min Age 6)

As if whitewater rafting weren’t enough, let’s combine it with a fishing trip on one of the most active casting grounds in America.  It’s not uncommon for our boats on our New River Float Trips to reel in close to 100 fish in a day.  Run a rapid…cast…reel in…release and repeat.  And as the season gets longer, the fish get bigger.  Our guides know where to go, where to cast and how to fight the big ones, so you and your kids can have the time of your lives.

Climbing and Rappelling (Min Age 8)

Kids are born climbers.  With thousands of routes ranging from beginner to advanced, there’s a perfect spot here for anyone to enjoy West Virginia’s New River Gorge rock climbing and rappelling.
