If you love music and radio shows, you may already know the nationally-broadcasted public radio show, Mountain Stage. If you love wild adventures in beautiful places, you’re probably familiar with Adventures on the Gorge. But how about both—combined into one night of live performances, tasty food, stunning scenery, and community.
Let us present to you: A Night with Mountain Stage at Adventures on the Gorge.
The crew from the Charleston, WV based national public radio show Mountain Stage is making their way to the rim of the New River Gorge to bring an intimate audience of adventure lovers a live show.
“This is a special evening that celebrates the spirit of Mountain Stage and artists we admire, in an environment that lends itself to giving the audience a very different perspective and a genuine West Virginia experience,” says Mountain Stage Associate Producer Vasilia Scouras. Mountain Stage hosts live-to-tape shows at their home base in the Charleston, WV Cultural Center, but this evening they are not producing a live show for NPR Music, which, Scouras says, is a rarity.
“We are unplugging the “on the air” sign so to speak.”
That means this evening of intimate shows is just for the select few who are there in person.
You can watch the sunset over the New River Gorge to the soundtrack of Mountain State pianist Bob Thompson—a West Virginia Music Hall of Fame inductee. Then, while enjoying a host of hors d’oeuvres served by Smokey’s acclaimed culinary team, immerse yourself in a live performance from Mountain Stage host Larry Groce.
The night continues with the Americana multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter duo of Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams. The pair, who formerly played with the Levon Helm’s Band and has guest-starred and collaborated with the likes of Bob Dylan, Phil Lesh, Little Feat, and Jorma Kaukone, take the evening of entertainment to the next level. Plus, throughout the night you can indulge in your choice of beverages from a cash bar.
“An Evening with Mountain Stage at Adventures on the Gorge lends itself to a level of intimacy that up until this point is completely untapped,” Scouras says. “We are very excited about that and know Adventures on the Gorge is the perfect place for us to host this special event.”
