Set upon the backdrop of the New River Gorge, you are sure to get amazing views as you clamber up rocks and rappel down.
Our two popular sites for this trip are the Bridge Buttress with a view of the New River Gorge Bridge and Beauty Mountain with a view of the New River rapids.
On this full day trip, you’ll have plenty of time to try different climbs and rappels, as well as learn new skills like knot tying and belaying, if you are interested.
About half way through the day, you will stop and return to the resort basecamp for lunch. You will return to the same spot or head to a new location, depending on the needs of the guests.
No time? Try our Half-Day Climbing and Rappelling Trip.
We provide certified instructors, equipment you’ll need to climb, including climbing shoes (for climbing only), helmets, harnesses, hardware and ropes. You’ll need your own closed-toed shoes while hiking and rappelling.
Comfortable closed-toed shoes (no flip flops), a long sleeve shirt or jacket and long pants or shorts depending on the weather report, rain gear for rainy or windy days, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellent, drinking water and a small backpack or fanny pack.
Climbing areas are heavily regulated by the National Park Service, so group sizes are limited in any given area. Therefore large groups may need to be separated. Also, no spectators are allowed, as they add to our total number and affect our instructor to guest ratio.
Rock climbing requires good physical fitness and health. While rappelling is not physically demanding, it requires some courage to take that first step and to continue all the way down. Minimum age is 10.
Your guides and leaders will discuss specific safety requirements on site.
