Guided Mountain Biking Half Day

The New River Gorge boasts a huge quantity and variety of mountain biking terrain. From narrow roller-coaster singletrack trails to old gravel mining roads and railroad grades, there’s something for mountain bikers of all levels. Our half day mountain bike adventure is the best way to see this terrain.

The trails and routes you’ll take on a half day trip depend on your group’s goals and experience level. Discuss with your trip leader what you are comfortable with, what you’d like to do, and we’ll show you the way.

A more mild trip may be a mellow downhill grade along on the Southside Junction trail, passing by historic mining ruins, bridges, and beautiful bankside views of the New River along the way. If you would rather focus on speed, jumps, and banks than scenery, the Arrowhead trail system will give you a dose of adrenaline and a cardio workout with a series of loops on the rim of the New River Gorge that add up to over a dozen miles of singletrack.

If you’re a returning mountain biker and have already done these trails, let your guide know. There are over one hundred miles of mountain bike trails within New River National Park, and we’ll be sure to find something new for you.

Guide Information

Our mountain bike guides are not only extremely familiar with local trails; they are also skilled at bike maintenance, first aid, and assessing each participant’s individual abilities and potential.

What's Provided

We will provide mountain bikes, helmets, water bottles and transportation/shuttles to the trail.

What to Bring

You may wish to bring any personal cycling wear you own, a backpack, sunglasses, sunscreen, rain or wind jacket if necessary, and any snacks you may need while riding. Short pants are a great idea, and closed toed shoes are required. You may use your own bike and/or helmet if you wish.

Time on Trip

Our half day adventures run from about 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm, and are usually 12-15 miles in length.

Requirements & Restrictions

We can cater to all skill levels, but check with your physician about participating in high adrenaline, physical activities if you have any medical conditions. Mountain biking participants must be at least 10 years of age.

Trip Safety

Participants must wear helmets at all times while riding mountain bikes. Pay attention to your guide’s instructions about braking, appropriate speed, and upcoming obstacles.
