The Half-Day Lower New River rafting trip is designed for those who want to experience all the excitement of the Lower New River but with less time on the water. On this half-day trip, you won’t stop for lunch or to jump off Jump Rock, but you will experience all the rapids, scenery, and history that make the New River Gorge such a special place. This trip is great for first time rafters and families with kids 12 and older. If you’re looking for a longer rafting adventure, try our Full Day Lower New River Rafting Trip.

Cruise Through West Virginia History

The Half-Day Lower New River Gorge rafting trip winds its way through the New River Gorge, where, over millions of years, it carved and cut its way through the canyon, forming The Gorge that we love today.

Large boulders are found throughout the river, with sheer cliffs near the top of the 1,000-foot canyon. It isn’t hard to imagine how ancient this waterway is when you’re immersed in its scenery. Iconic views of Endless Wall and the New River Gorge Bridge will be visible from this section of the river, allowing you to view the scenic splendor from a different vantage point.

What To Do Before or After Your Quick Rafting Trip?

This trip is ideal for those looking to go whitewater rafting and fit in other adventures in the same day. Rock climbing, flatwater kayaking, standup paddle boarding, and ziplining are just a few of the adventures that you can do with the rest of your day at Adventures on the Gorge!

FAQ

What More Is There to Know About the New River?

Did you know the New River is said to be the second-oldest river in the world? Over millions of years, its white water has carved the New River Gorge and left us with large shelf drops and boulders–a perfect combination of waves and hydraulics that make for world-class rafting. The Lower New River provides adventurous rafting, while the Upper New River is typically more tame.

How Do I Dress for New River Rafting?

What’s Included

Transportation is covered from the resort to the river and back again. We’ll also provide all your rafting equipment (helmet, personal flotation device or PFD, paddle, and boat) and a complimentary beverage.

Admission to the pool is included on the day of your trip.

What Do I Bring?

Bring any medication you need throughout the day, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a change of clothes to keep at the resort to change into after your trip. If necessary, wetsuits and splash jackets are available for rent. Call us to book those, too.

This is a Half Day Trip.
Depending on the day’s water level, you’ll spend between 2-3.5 hours on the water, plus shuttle time to and from the river. Trip length and intensity vary based on water levels, which change throughout the season.
