Upper New River White Water Rafting - Adventures on the Gorge

Upper New River White Water Rafting

Our Most Popular Family Trip – Kids Raft FREE

The mild whitewater of the Upper New River offers gentle rapids and scenic views of the New River Gorge. This trip is ideal for families, scouts and youth groups as an introduction to whitewater rafting.

We use full-sized rafts on high water days and duckies (inflatable kayaks that hold 1 adult or 1 child and 1 adult) on normal days.

Everyday, all season long, kids ages 6 -11 raft free (one per paying adult) and 12-year olds raft at half the adult Saturday rate.

Guide Information

Our Upper New guides are absolute experts at working with beginner rafters and families with small children. Guides will be either in rafts or in duckies leading the pack.

Boat Size

We typically take duckies on the Upper New. They are inflatable, one or two-person rafts shaped like kayaks. With a duckie, you’ll get to experience a more personal whitewater rafting challenge and have the experience of a lifetime. Our duckies are self-bailing, which means water that splashes in will drain out on its own. They are stable, easy to maneuver, and fun. Standard 16-foot rafts are available as well upon request. They hold 8 guests plus a guide.

Time on Water

This is a full day trip. Depending on the water level, you’ll spend between 4-6 hours on the water plus shuttle time to and from the river.

What’s Provided

We provide transportation from our resort to the river and back again, all rafting equipment (helmet, life jacket, paddle and boat) and a sumptuous and filling riverside lunch. You will not go hungry!

What to Bring

Bring any medication you need throughout the day, plus sunscreen, sunglasses and a change of clothes to keep at the resort upon your return. Guides carry small waterproof bags to stow necessary medications. Depending on the time of year and the weather, you may also want a synthetic layer. If necessary, wetsuits and splash jackets are available for rent. Call us to book those, too.

Group Reservations

Customized quotations are available upon request for groups with over 15 members.

Requirements & Restrictions

The Upper New minimum age is 6 years old. Our PFDs (personal floatation devices) have a maximum chest capacity of 56 inches.
