Adventures on the Gorge is made up of outdoor enthusiasts, adrenaline junkies, and nature lovers. We’re explorers and paddlers, bikers and hikers. Our backgrounds and strengths may differ, but our common experience is the passion to share this wild, wonderful corner of West Virginia we all call home.
Our resort and outfitter company was born during a tumultuous time in West Virginia’s rafting industry that demanded changes in the way rafting companies did business. In 2007, the forefathers of Adventures on the Gorge decided to merge four parent rafting companies–Mountain River Tours, Class-VI River Runners, Songer Whitewater, and Rivermen. Each company brought something different to the table, and all brought their own loyal guests. By combining their strengths instead of competing, the four companies joined together to create a new type of experience and the nation’s premier adventure resort.
As forerunners in the adventure resort industry, the founders worked together to create a resort that went beyond outdoor adventures to also offer complete vacation packages. They expanded the resort, creating the Canyon Rim and Mill Creek campuses with restaurants, bars, lodging, camping, conference rooms, and a plethora of amenities like a swimming pool with breathtaking views of the New River Gorge.
That’s a lot of changes, and a good amount of growth. But what makes Adventures on the Gorge different is that, at its heart, the company remains the product of gung-ho outdoor guides who want to share their sport and help others experience the fulfillment that comes with being immersed in nature. Above all, our passion is to lead the world outdoors.
Our founders and guides have grown up paddling these rivers and exploring these mountains. Their dedication is reflected in the devoted guests who return year after year, enjoying a lifetime of Adventures on the Gorge.
