Overview

Raft the Best Run Based on Water Levels

  • Full Day Trip
  • 4-6 hours
  • Includes lunch
  • You will not know what section or river you are rafting until the morning of the trip
  • Trip choice is dependent on water level

Water levels vary every single day, which means that rafting conditions can vary every day. If you’re someone who wants to experience the very best of the rivers that we offer, The Best Run of the Day is for you. What does this mean? On the morning of your trip, our river managers will check the levels AND your skill level, and we’ll pick the best possible section/raft combination for you. That could mean that you’ll raft the Lower New River in a high intensity (smaller) raft, or it could mean that you’ll go to the Gauley River in inflatable kayaks. Or it could mean that you’ll raft on the Meadow River or the Cherry River. This is the trip for you if you’re ok with a little bit of uncertainty-you won’t know what river/section you’ll be rafting until the morning of your trip!

One of the beautiful things about Mother Nature is that her conditions can’t be planned. When it comes to rafting, this means water levels can affect the intensity and length of your trip–and that’s where the Best Run of the Day comes in. Choose this trip if you’re not set on one particular river section and simply want the best adventure possible! We check water levels each day, and we’ll make sure to put you on a river section that will give you the best chance at rafting the rapids you’ve been dreaming of.

This trip is available Sunday-Friday all season long except for The Dries release dates.

What’s Included

Transportation is covered from the resort to the river and back again. We’ll also provide all your rafting equipment (helmet, personal flotation device or PFD, paddle, and boat) and a complimentary beverage.

This is a full day trip, so lunch will be included. Your guides will set up a full lunch spread part way through the trip.

What to Bring

Bring any medication you need throughout the day, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a change of clothes to keep at the resort to change into after your trip. Guides carry small, waterproof bags to stow necessary medications. Depending on the time of year and the weather, you may also want a synthetic layer. If necessary, wetsuits and splash jackets are available for rent. Call us to book those, too.

Trip Time

This is a Full Day Trip.
Depending on the day’s water level, you’ll spend between 4-6 hours on the water, plus shuttle time to and from the river.  You will stop part way through the trip for lunch. Trip length and intensity vary based on water levels, which change throughout the season.

Your boat type will vary on this trip.

Our standard, 16-foot rafts comfortably seat eight rafters and one river guide. Your river guide sits in the back of the raft, where they’ll give instructions for when and how to paddle through each rapid and share their expertise about our rivers and region. Learn more about our guides.
